What is a Birth Doula?
Imagine having someone walk you through your labor step-by-step. Someone who will help make your birth experience the way you desire it to be. Someone who's only agenda is YOU! A birth doula is a private labor assistant who is trained and experienced in providing continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother-to-be and her partner. A doula helps to facilitate communication between you, your partner and clinical care providers. Having a doula by your side will assure you have the support you need during pregnancy, your delivery and your postpartum time.
As your Doula, my services include:
I prefer to meet with you at least twice, more if time allows, to become acquainted with you and your birth preferences. I draw on my knowledge and experience to provide emotional support, physical comfort measures and the information you need to make informed decisions as they arise in pregnancy and labor. I can provide reassurance and perspective to you and your partner, make suggestions for labor progress and help with relaxation, massage, positioning and other techniques for comfort.
Once you are in active labor, I will provide continuous support. When your baby arrives, I will remain with you approximately 1-2 hours until breastfeeding has been established and you are settled comfortably into your postpartum room. I offer one postpartum visit to see how you and baby are adjusting to your new life together.
